Only murders in the Building season 2 plot
According Deadline, the acclaimed series’ first season introduced viewers to Mabel Mora (Gomez), struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Short) and semi-retired television actor Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), three unknowns who are come to bond because of their obsession with true crime. After a suspicious death at their New York apartment building, the Arconia, the neighbors decide to start their own podcast about their investigation into the death, which police have ruled a suicide.
Only Murders in the Building Season 2 picks up with the trio after the shocking death of Arconia board chairman Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) as they race to unmask his killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue: the trio are publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they are now the subject of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a group of New York neighbors who all think having committed murder.
The story is reported to continue from the final episode of Only Murders in the Building Season 1 Episode 10, Open and close, which was released on October 19, 2021. The episode is directed by Jamie Babbit and written by John Hoffman & Rachel Burger. The episode’s official synopsis states, “The trio race to a resolution as their own lives are put in jeopardy.”
Viewers could see that Jan turns out to be the trio’s killer. She and Tim had a romantic relationship, but one day after they broke up, she killed him. Charles thinks Jan poisoned him as he confronts her.
When Mabel and Oliver break into Jan’s apartment, they discover a package marked “Jan’s Lil’ Toxins” and a vial of poison inside. The three rush to the basement and arrest Jan as he tries to gasse the entire building using the newly opened fires. They encounter Jan again in the basement, who threatens to shoot them. After a fight, Mabel uses the Emerald Ring to extinguish Jan. Jan is detained.
Oliver and Charles receive a cryptic text message asking them to leave the building quickly while Mabel goes to get more champagne while the group celebrates. The series’ opening scene is re-enacted as Oliver and Charles rush towards Mabel, whom they discover bloodied and bent over Bunny’s lifeless body. As Arconia residents and others, such as Detective Williams, Oscar, and Cinda look on, the trio are led out of the building in handcuffs. Thus, the plot of the series will evolve from the final episode and launch the upcoming season.

The episode is titled, Persons of Interest, and the episode’s official synopsis reads, “Welcome home, Arconiacs!” Minutes after the end of Season 1, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are now implicated in the murder of Chairman of the Board, Bunny Folger.
