Queen Elizabeth welcomes Justin Trudeau to a meeting after having the Covid
Queen Elizabeth II met Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada in his first official in-person meeting on Monday after testing positive for the coronavirus last month, giving him further reassurance about his recovery.
Queen Elizabeth, 95, first tested positive for the virus on February 20 but reported only mild cold symptoms. Buckingham Palace announced its return to work on March 1.
The palace posted a photo on Twitter Monday from the Queen, who is also Queen of Canada, receiving Mr. Trudeau at Windsor Castle for an in-person audience or a one-on-one meeting.
Some observers on Twitter pointed out that the flowers behind the queen were blue and yellow – the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
In recent days the Disasters Emergency Committee, which distributes relief money in Britain, thanked the Queen for making a generous donation to their humanitarian fundraiser for Ukraine.
Trudeau is touring Europe this week to show Canada’s solidarity with European countries “in the face of Russia’s unwarranted invasion of Ukraine,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement.
On Monday, Mr. Trudeau also met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. They were joined by Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands.
