Discord users cannot upload or download images and videos

Here is the gist of the article in video form:

Discord is a popular communication platform that offers free VoIP, text, and video chat services along with unique gamer features like Twitch integration.

It allows its users to upload videos, images, emojis and GIFs to communities and friends. It is designed in a way that makes it easy for users to create communities and keep in touch with each other.

But currently, some Discord users are facing an issue where they cannot upload or download images and videos in channels or via DM (1,2,3,4,5,6,seven).

Basically, when you send a file in image or video format, a progress bar starts to fill up. But the file fails to download and an error message saying “Download Failed” pops up on the screen.

Likewise, when they try to upload any images or videos on the Discord platform, they get an error message saying “Upload failed” on the screen.

The upload or download function fails every time and it happens regardless of the size of the files.

Also, this issue does not seem to affect any particular platform as there are reports from both PC and mobile users.

I couldn’t upload a photo to a server, so I asked my friend to do it, and she couldn’t, so I asked my other friend to do it, and my other friend couldn’t either . We all live in very different places. The gifs still work remotely, and on PC they actively say “download failed”. Anyone else encounter this problem?

Legit, it was horrible to use today. Photos weren’t loading on my data connection anymore, and some channel names are just “…” No idea what they changed other than part of the UI, but goddamnit it was a nightmare.

At first glance, the Discord ‘Instant upload’ feature seems to be the cause of this issue, as users can upload images using the normal upload feature.

Some have tried troubleshooting methods like clearing cache, logging in and out of Discord, and restarting their devices, but the problem persists.

Recognized problem

On the plus side, Discord’s support team recently said the company is aware of the issue and is investigating it. But there is no ETA for a fix yet.
