Best free Android apps and games of the week [11th Edition]

We’re back with another edition of our weekly column Best free Android apps and games. After a little hiatus due to some unfortunate circumstances, the series is back with more exciting, interesting and fun apps. This time we’re looking at the 11th edition of the column. As usual, it will be a mix of productivity, privacy, customization, and addicting games.

Without further ado, let’s jump straight to the list and explore the best free Android apps and games.

Best free Android apps and games of the week [11th Edition]

1. Count things from the photos

We’re kicking off this new edition with an exciting AI-powered app called CountThings from Photos. As the name suggests, the app lets you count things automatically just using the device’s camera. It’s actually fairly easy. Suppose you want to count a lot of coins. All you have to do is open the app, choose the part model, and take a photo. The app will take care of all the math and produce a result which is the total of the coins.

There is a plethora of counting models in the store. We are talking about generic counting to high precision log counting. The goal of CountThings from Photos is to automate the counting process. Of course, this will be more useful if you are dealing with large amounts of items. That said, it’s still a fun app to try and play with as you explore more models.

Unfortunately, the app is not completely free. You can keep using the demo models forever, but to use the entire catalog you will have to fork out some money out of pocket.

2. Notes all at once

One Swipe Notes - the best free Android apps One Swipe Notes - the best free Android apps

If you are an iPad or Mac user, you are familiar with the Quick Notes feature allowing users to quickly create notes by simply swiping from the lower right corner. Well, thanks to the massive Android community, the same functionality is now available on the platform. Developed by Yogesh Dama, One Swipe Notes servers serve exactly the same purpose.

One Swipe Notes will add a side gesture to your screen allowing you to simply swipe over it to access floating notes. Since it is a floating nature, you can quickly take notes from any screen no matter what you are doing. For example, suppose you have a phone call and suddenly need to write down some important information. Instead of looking for a pen and paper, you can slide the bar and take notes. It is so easy.

After taking the notes, you can of course add additional functionality to them in the app. For example, you can set reminders, assign a color code to each note, etc. Of course, you can also control gestures and bar such as position, color, size, thickness, and transparency.

With people focusing more on privacy, the Android community is finding unique ways to help you easily achieve your privacy goals. We have already discussed many privacy-related apps in the previous columns, so if you’re interested, you can check them out as well. Returning to the present, Privacy Dashboard presents the apps that access your privacy permission without telling you.

The app gives you a timeline view of location, microphone, and camera access. From a user experience perspective, the app offers a beautiful, clean and minimal user interface. The privacy dashboard also gives you privacy indicators, which means you don’t need to use any additional app for this purpose. The app provides 24 hour statistics of all apps using permissions.

The app also offers a detailed view of the permissions and usage of the app which is also a nice addition. Of course, Privacy Dashboard itself needs permission to work perfectly. We’re looking at accessibility settings and location access. The developer was kind enough to make the app open source, which means it’s completely free and will stay that way. To top it off, there are no ads or pop-ups and we always love it in our list of the best free Android apps and games.

4. Buoy – Pimp Your Battery Saver

Buoy - the best free Android apps Buoy - the best free Android apps

Buoy is an Android battery saving app that you don’t know you need unless you try it. Every Android smartphone has a built-in battery saving feature. But the point is, it’s not configurable or customizable out of the box. This is where Buoy comes in. Buoy lets you control various aspects of your device to save more battery. You can activate and deactivate certain features according to your preferences.

You have multiple profiles, namely Light, Moderate, High and Extreme. In addition, you can either use the predefined configurations or modify them according to your preferences. You can announce the energy saver to other applications by telling them what type of profile is active. You can control vibration, animation, sound triggers, night mode, data savers, firewalls, and more. There are other options like quick doze, optional sensors, background check, app sleep and a few more.

All of these combined can give you the freedom to control your battery saving modes exactly the way you want. Well, the app is not free. I know I know if it’s not free so what is it doing here. This is one of those apps that is extremely useful and worth every penny. There are a plethora of free battery savers out there, but I’ve found them more bloatware than useful.

5. WellPapier

WellPaper - the best free Android apps WellPaper - the best free Android apps

WellPaper is a very unique wallpaper app that falls a bit into live wallpaper territory. The app uses data visualization to create an animated wallpaper for you. You can think of WellPaper as a digital wellness wallpaper. It tracks your smartphone usage in various categories such as games, information and business, entertainment, etc. Depending on your usage, the app will change the content of your wallpaper with each color representing a different category and the area you pass over that category.

It doesn’t look so good, but it’s a pretty nice addition to your wallpaper collection. Personally, I find it quite useful that I can take a quick glance at my smartphone usage from the home screen. WellPaper offers three different models: composition, glow and radial. Unlike most live wallpapers, WellPaper is battery saving as it updates when your device is unlocked, which is why it is a “sort of” live wallpaper.

If you are looking to pull something useful out of your wallpaper, then WellPaper is your next bet to do it. Thanks to its uniqueness, it has made its way to our list of the best free Android apps and games.

In a Reckless Getaway 2 Android game you are trying to escape the law and it is not going to be easy. To be at the top of the Most Wanted list, you need to continue to survive by dodging the heat and, of course, trying not to die. If you don’t like being part of a car chase, you can move around freely as well. To keep things interesting, there are plenty of epic cars that you can unlock. The controls of the game are also quite simple.

After spending a lot of time with this game, things can feel repetitive and a bit boring. Having said that, if you haven’t tried this game at all, you should definitely give it a try. Besides the gaming experience, the game launches a limited number of ads, which is always a good thing. For a number of days the game will keep you in an endless loop.
